A change is as good as a rest…!

….And I’m not ready for resting yet!!
Earlier last year I set my goals to be mainly strength orientated, and tailored my training to meet these targets. Gradually as my lift poundage’s increased (220kg unassisted bench, 300kg unassisted squat – gym lifts) it started to take a small effect on my joints.. . so I figure its time to go back to the roots and basics of natural bodybuilding!
I am now exclusively training at the Musclefactory Gym (William St, Swinton, South Yorkshire) under close scrutiny of the gym owner and successful bodybuilder / martial artist, Chris Wormley. Chris’ knowledge base in nutrition and training is second to none and it is his influence and advice that may aid me in making the physical improvements that I need and want so much.
Changes have already been made to my diet and training with much more emphasis on muscle contraction / stimulation using correct form on exercise rather than merely throwing around large poundage’s, and already I have been crippled with muscle pumps and soreness. However, please don’t presume that I’m now fannying about with little weights trying to ‘feel the burn’! – My training now, although doing less worksets, are more intense and demanding on the body….still hardcore!! On the diet front, an increase in my daily calorific intake coming from wholesome foods has been the main change, here again I feel I previously fell into the all too common trap of overtraining and under eating.
It is important to continually review your training to avoid your body adapting to exercises and becoming stale, keeping detailed logs of training and diet are a great way of achieving this and after listening to Chris, it is an exercise I plan on maintaining and advocate to any serious gym rat!
Keep training ….Hard!!

Book end a workout.

Had a real busy day yesterday—and when I got home I did some work on the new home gym, cleaning everything up.
I awoke this mrning at 3.30 am ready for the day—got an ace day ahead—first up is legs.
I feel fueled for this —this morning for breakfast I had toast and almond nut butter–then a half hour later had steel cut oats–They take half an hour to cook—This I had with banana –honey and cinamon.
With this I had a b complex and a B pollen cap.

After my leg workout I will have a post workout drink of VP2 –with apple juice and glutamine and creatine –also some BCA.

An hour or so later some nuts and fruit.
Two hours or so after that—breakfast number 2.
Same as above —but 2 eggs with this meal.

That is how I book end a workout—fuel it and feed it.
Have an ace day love to you all Ian.

Chest and Back.

Good morning guys.
I was up early this morning —way before 4 am –was real keen to train today.
Put my steel cut oats in the slow cooker—while I had a bath and shave.
When I came down —Slow cooker too slow!—So I put it all in a pan and cooked it through.
I sat at the table and watched the sun come up with a huge bowl of oats with goats milk, raisons, banana and cinamon.
This I soaked over night—-it was stunning.

Chest and back today—my plan is to do dumbell press and chins back to back for around 8 sets.
I will then do dips and rows for a few sets —see how that feels.

Been training loads as I said in the last blog—On Sunday I did ten sets of standing thick bar press for shoulders—I did these on the training deck at home inbetween the rain storms in the afternoon—It was a killer to get ten reps on each set.

Monday morning at 4 am I went for a run around the park near my home and then did some abs on the deck when I got back.
I have not run in years but found 3 miles no probs at all—will up that over the next few weeks.
Have an ace day enjoy it.
I will be posting here a few times a week —But I will be posting my new blog on my site most days.
I will cover training and nutrition and anything else I feel you may find interesting.
So check out the new blog on my site www.bodyindesign.co.uk
Love to you all Ian.

Mega Week

Had a real good week.
Ton’s of feedback from the show, it’s been awesome.
Got back into eating real good—I did not go mad after the show on crap –But I have had plenty of foods I have not had for a while. In fact I made my own pizza.
Sad I know.
One day I eat a full organic fruit cake—-Well you can guess that did not smell as nice the second time around.

With all the extra calls—I have done a ton of training to off set the calories—Sometimes I have done two workouts in a day—one early morning on the new deck i have at home—Infact I was training this morning at 4.30 am.
The other has been in the evening.
After a show you can gain a rebound affect and you can gain real well—So don’t just eat crap and sit about—eat good stuff and lots of it—and train like mad.

My new vegetarian diet did the trick along with strict –very strict training.

This was posted on a blog—by Mark Oaks—a fantastic bodybuilder —who I have battled with on stage—I respect Mark—he has nothing to gain by writing this –reading his kind words made the 6 months prep worth every minute.

- Ian Duckett - WTF!!! WOW! AMAZING!! Don’t think I’ve ever seen ANYONE turn up for a guest spot in their “best shape ever” but for Ian, this really was ther case on Sunday! Definitely better than he was at either Pro-Am or Worlds in 2007 (where he clearly won, if you’ve had your head in the sand!!) I sometimes find Ian’s physique a little too small or strung out, which is just me preference for physiques and NOT a criticism by any means. But on Sunday he was in at least his best condition (better IMO), but also with a different, more fuller look. Stronger looking. Clearly the time with Robbie had paid some dividends. And ever…masterclass posing. If you missed it…shame on you! Get the DVD from Eric and watch and learn!

Thank you to everyone for your kind words.
Love to you all Ian.
