Supplement Jungle
I’ve been working here with AST for about 4 years now and in that time
I’ve basically been in a capsule as far as the supplement world is concerned.
I haven’t paid much attention to the other brands and products on the
market because I know everything I need is right here. If AST doesn’t
make it, I know it isn’t worth taking because we only produce products
that have solid scientific research behind them. This code of ethics
seems like it would be the common standard companies would adhere to
but out there in the supplement jungle that isn’t the case.
My belief in AST has only been strengthened after being around Paul
and seeing first hand the kind of operation he runs. So I guess you
can say I’ve been spoiled. I don’t have to worry about being suckered
by marketing hype because I’ve been well educated by both Paul and Paul
Cribb. I know what we have works. It’s worked for me since 1998 and
results have only improved over the years.
Many out there are not so lucky. They don’t know the good from the
bad and the ugly because they learn about supplements from magazines,
gym buddies or the local supplement retailer which makes them easy targets
for the “latest and greatest” supplement propaganda.
The last couple weekends I’ve been outside my capsule and knee deep
in the supplement sewage. I was at the Arnold Classic Expo where within
eye shot was an infamous company peddling a worthless liquid creatine
product (that’s not my opinion – that’s science talking) and that charade
was just the tip of the ice berg in a sea of pills, powders and liquids.
Some good, some questionable and many just plain garbage.
A week later I did a tour of some stores and that’s where the real
eye opening began. I was admittedly surprised at the enormity of all
the different brands that lined the shelves. Some of which I’ve heard
of but the majority I never had. I saw some of the basic products like
creatines, proteins and fat burners but an overpowering amount of (dare
I say it) junk. Proposed muscle building junk wrapped in pretty paper
and a promise of quick and easy results, oh and some even with their
very own plastic syringe looking dropper included. I guess that makes
it seem more “drug-like”.
As long as companies can rake in the dough I don’t see it changing
any time soon, in fact it will probably get worse before it gets better.
I just think it’s sad. So many people mislead, wasting their money,
getting zero results, sinking more money into the next “greatest thing”
and so on, and so on.
You know, I am proud of what we do here at AST and I wouldn’t have
it any other way. We’re not going to give you flashy ad campaigns with
no valid information, we’re not going to give you some worthless products
masked with a drug sounding name and we’re not going jump on the band
wagon of every latest and greatest supplement which has no science behind
it. In other words, we’re not going to lie.
We’ll keep on with this crazy concept of producing products that actually
work, no matter how foreign that is to the industry as a whole.
Buyer definitely beware.
